I. warp & weft

In weaving, the warp is the set of lengthwise yarns that are held in tension on a loom. The yarn that is inserted over-and-under the warp threads is called the weft.

Tromp as writ is an instruction in a weaving draft. It directs the weaver to press the loom's pedals in the same order as the threading pattern in order to produce a particular weave.

In spinning, the amount of twist in a yarn determines its character, in particular, its hardness or softness and strength. The ply indicates how many strands make up a single yarn (2-ply, 3-ply, etc.).
